Visioneering by Andy Stanley – book review

I recently joined bloggingforbooks.org. It is a great program that allows participants access to free books in exchange for writing a review. For my first book I chose Visioneering by Andy Stanley.

Visioneering, by the author’s definition, is the course one follows to make dreams a reality. Through the pages, we are walked through 20 building blocks as we move toward our vision. The nice thing is at this point you may not know what your vision is. That is ok, because we are walked through a process of figuring that out. Often a vision begins as a concern. As we think and pray about that concern something begins to happen, and we begin to see how things could/should be rather than how they are. We arrive at a place that we realize that we have meaning, a purpose. Without us, something that should be, wouldn’t be. As we begin removing obstacles that come between us and our dream, we take steps toward the end result. It is often something that is bigger than ourselves. It is a God sized project. It becomes our vision.

Through the life of Nehemiah, Stanley helps us walk through our vision, from conception, to roadblocks, to criticism, to the fulfillment  Nehemiah had a long road in front of him. He faced many huge obstacles that might keep a normal person from sticking with their dreams and vision. Through the book, we visioneeringsee how Nehemiah handled his difficulties, and by following his lead, we can move from the place a vision is birthed to a seeing that vision fulfilled.

In addition to the life of Nehemiah, the author shares many personal but relevant stories to help make each point. Going a step further he is very practical with helping each of us, wherever we are in our process. At the end of each chapter there is a workbook style set of questions. By reflecting on the chapter, on the life of Nehemiah, and on our own unique set of circumstances, we can work through the visioneering process and continue to move forward with our dream.

Because of the progression of the book, no matter where you are in your dream/vision process, I am sure you will find something of value. Whether you are just beginning and are trying to figure out your vision, are facing roadblocks and ready to give up, or about to see your vision fulfilled, this book is relevant.

Visioneering is the course one follows to make dreams a reality.
