Extreme Wrestling: a family devotion on Prayer

Think about it

When you think of wrestling, sometime we think of the great big guys with lots of muscles. Did you know that there are smaller wrestlers also? And one key characteristic of wrestlers, no matter what their size, is they never give up, and they keep fighting until they can’t fight any more.

Pray and never give up……

Romans 12:2 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give hanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

This Family Devotional Guide is intended to be done together, as a family. Take some time this week together as a family to see what the Bible says about praying.

The dictionary says being persistent means to continue, especially in spite of opposition, obstacles, discouragement or something that is constantly repeated. God wants us to be persistent with out prayers.
Jacob wrestled with a man, and when he realized that man was God, he wrestled through the night. He decided he would not stop until God blessed him. God did honor Jacob’s persistence.
Sometimes praying is similar to wrestling. It is not always easy to do. But it is something we need to keep doing. The Bible is full of verses that tell us to keep praying (or pray without ceasing). God will bless and honor your prayers, but you cannot give up if He doesn’t answer right away.

Take a few minutes to talk about some things you are praying for. Decide together as a family that you will continue to pray, or ‘wrestle’ with God until He blesses you.
