The Rules Commandment # 1
Special thanks to Wesley Edie, Family Life Pastor at Parklawn Assembly of God for sharing his 10 Commandments skit series with us.
Leader: I am so excited! The word we are going to hear about tonight is rock solid. Literally, the teaching was written in stone! Super exciting stuff!
Maggie: Excited? Excited, me too, I’m so excited!
Leader : Oh… hi there Maggie. How are you?
Maggie: I’m doing fantastic. I’m so excited!!!
Leader: Oh, really, why are you so excited?
Maggie: Uh because you are!
Leader: I’m excited about the Ten Commandments.
Maggie: About the what?
Leader: Ten Commandments. They’re God’s rules for us.
Maggie: Ohhhh. Never mind! Not excited anymore. Actually kind of feeling like blah.
Leader: Maggie, why are you feeling like blah? I thought you were excited. What happened?
Maggie: Not excited about talking about more rules! I mean, I have rules at home, rules at
school and rules at church. I even have rules in the car. Now I have to learn about God’s rules… great.
Leader: Now come on Maggie, what rules that you have to follow are so bad? How bad are the rules in the car?
Maggie: I’m not allowed to smash my peanut butter cookies in the carpet anymore. I forgot last week again and ohhhhh was my mom mad.
Leader: (under your breath) Umm, it wouldn’t be pretty if I was your mom and you did that in my car.
Maggie: What did you say?
Leader: Never mind. God’s rules are the most important rules we can follow. I have a feeling you’ve been keeping some of his rules and not even really know it.
Maggie: Really, like what?
Leader: For example, the first rule is found in Exodus 20:3 it says “Have no other god’s before me”. I know that you love Jesus with all of your heart.
Maggie: Yes I do. I can be excited about that rule. That’s easy, piece of cake… or pie or cookie or how about ice cream or…
Leader: Anyway, this is the commandment we are talking about today. Are you ready to listen to the lesson?
Maggie: Ready and willing. With open ears and open heart and open mind and open stomach. Wow, I’m hungry my stomach is hungry. Mr/Ms. ______ do you have any food? I’m hungry.
Leader: No, I don’t have any food for you silly, crazy Maggie. Let’s get into the message.
Maggie: Food, looking for food (Maggie goes down talking about food)
